 Caledonian MacBrayne Ferries provides two main routes to the Isle of Bute, each offering a unique and breathtaking journey.


The official CalMac website provides the most accurate and up-to-date information about ferry schedules, including timetables to the Isle of Bute. You can visit their website and navigate to the "Timetables" section, where you can select your departure and destination ports to get detailed schedule information.


Wemyss Bay Station which is home to the ferry terminal was recently voted the UK's best loved station, known for its stunning Victorian architecture and impressive glass canopy. The terminal is seamlessly connected to Glasgow Central Station by a direct train line. Making the Isle of Bute an easy retreat for anyone looking to escape the urban hustle and bustle and enjoy a slower pace.

Wemyss Bay to Rothesay


The ferry journey from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay is relatively short, taking around 35 minutes.  Keep your camera ready, as the journey promises breathtaking views as the ferry's route takes you through iconic Scottish waters, passing by rocky cliffs, lush green hills, and scattered islands.

Colintrave to Rhubodach

The ferry journey from Colintraive to Rhubodach is one of the shortest ferry routes in Scotland taking around 5-10 minutes. This route provides stunning views of the Kyles of Bute, a picturesque strait known for its natural beauty and sailing opportunities.


As you disembark at Rhubodach (pronounced Roo-buh-dakh) you'll have just a short 15- minute drive to your final destination.  The route, winds through the Isle of Bute where you will encounter more of the island's enchanting scenery.  Follow the signs that beckon you toward the heart of the town and as you draw closer to you'll start to experience the unique charm that Rothesay has to offer.  Quaint shops, bustling cafes, and architecture that speaks of bygone eras.  A testament to the rich history that has shaped this island gem.
